In an adaptation of his own children's book, Besson mixes live-action and CGI animation with patchy results. The Banishment

Based on a short story by William Saroyan, Zvyagintsev's film opens like a thriller as middle-aged Mark (Baluyev) drives to the inner-city flat of his brother Alex with a bullet in his arm. This mock-documentary introduces us to teen Asperger's sufferer Ben. Moving backwards and forwards between his so-called life of bullying and high school torture and his escape into online role playing games, the film delivers a doom laden narrative. Balthazar's debut feature cleverly dodges and ducks where you would otherwise expect it to run straight.

Billboard for Edinburgh: Mark Wallinger
Date Location
The punchy sentence 'MARK WALLINGER IS INNOCENT', shouted out from the well placed Ingleby Billboard, is intriguing, but with little in-gallery material to explain it, it appears to be a meaningless pharse, disappointing from such an overtly political artist.

This, the first of seven proposed children fantasy blockbusters based on CS Lewis' much loved allegorical novels, is an absolute stinker, and one made all the more unpalatable by the fact that the very unchristian greed of its producers is so utterly palpable over its seemingly endless running time. Proof that great books can make truly appalling films.
