A Time And Place: Paintings from the City Collection

Part two of the gallery's Italian art exhibition includes 'The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew' by Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci's 'Allegory of Truth and Time', Orazio Gentileschi's 'Joseph and Potiphar's Wife', Cristofano Allori's 'Judith with the Head of Holofernes' and drawings by Guido Reni, Guercino and Bernini. Last admission is one hour before the gallery closes.

Dutch Mannerism: Goltzius and his Contemporaries

In celebration of the dawn of the Golden Age of Dutch Art, this display highlights two of the National Galleries' significant recent acquisitions, Abraham Bloemaert's 'Miracle of the Loaves' and Hendrick Goltzius's drawing 'Man with a Tassled Cap'. These are accompanied by more of Goltzius's extraordinary drawings and engravings and a selection of works by their lesser-known contemporaries, Jacob Matham, Jan Saeredam and Jacques de Gheyn.

Four Scottish Painters

A display of the work of four Scottish artists of the post-war period: Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Bellany, Alan Davie and Anne Redpath, all of whom have had a significant influence on their own and subsequent generations. Taken from the permanent collection of the Gallery of Modern Art, the collection includes works of expressionism and abstraction with influences ranging from natural forms to Zen Buddhism to jazz music.

The Islanders: An Introduction

An introduction to the inexhaustible imaginary world of Scottish artist Charles Avery, whose ongoing 'Islanders' project uses drawing, painting, sculpture and text to describe the topology, cosmology and inhabitants of an island of his own creation. Inspired by his upbringing on Mull, the exhibition brings together new and previously exhibited works, including the Scottish premiere of the sculptural installation, 'The Plane of the Gods'.
