A popular annual open exhibition which gives professional, amateur and emerging artists the opportunity to show their work. George Jamesone (c 1690–1644) was the first great native portrait painter in Scotland, master of a rich, colourful and intricate style and so successful that he had two houses, one in his native Aberdeen and one in Edinburgh, so that he could take commissions from people all over the country.
