The Orchar Collection at Broughty Castle

The former provost of Broughty Ferry's art collection, which contains over 400 paintings, drawings and prints, survives intact and is regarded as one of the most significant Victorian collections of Scottish art. This exhibition features 24 paintings from the collection and includes landscapes, still lifes and portraits by artists of the Robert Scott Lauder Group.

Dr Dietmar Elger from the Gerhard Richter Archive gives an overview of Richter's work from the early photo paintings to the 2007 window in Cologne Cathedral, comprising some 11,200 coloured glass plates. Elger discusses the influence the ubiquity of mass-produced and photographic images in the 1960s had on Richter's work, and how he later transferred this influence to his abstract paintings. No booking required.
