Anthony Schrag's work has a subversive wit; an early video, Stairs, features him walking up the underside of a flight of stars in his block of flats, filmed with an upside-down video camera, so that a person walking down the stairs normally appears to be upside-down. When Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel looked at his new album cover and asked himself 'How much more black could this be?', not being a research chemist he had no way of knowing that early 21st century scientists would develop shades of black that are very much blacker than regular black paint. Artist Tom Estes supervises a collaborative performance and installation of a portable black hole, created using carbon nanotubes, about which we can say with confidence, 'None more black.'
