Dr Debbie Lewer (lecturer in the History of Art at the University of Glasgow) will lead this short course which will explore some of the main aspects of the celebrated German artist's oeuvre. It will explore his practice throughout the 1960s to the 1980s, as well as the significance of his work in the context of post-war Germany.

Gerhard Richter: New Approaches

In collaboration with the University of Glasgow and the Goethe Institut Glasgow, the National Galleries present a symposium which will shed new light on the diversity of practice of one of the world's most significant living artists. International scholars including Hal Foster and Dietmar Elger will address topics including Richter's use of drawing in his early work and his connections to Pop art. Includes entry to the exhibition.

Impressionism and Scotland: Taste and Critical Reception

Coinciding with the National Galleries' exhibition 'Impressionism & Scotland', this conference will explore the collection, exhibition and reception of French, Dutch and Scottish 19th-century art. An opening lecture by Professor Kenneth McConkey on Thursday will be followed by speakers from several of the UK's universities and galleries. Entry to the exhibit is included, and a wine reception follows. Registration is Thurs 1700-1730 and Fri 0930-1000.
