Tchaikovsky's passionate and dramatic 'Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture', which contains possibly the world's most famous love theme, Grieg's enormously popular 'Piano Concerto in A minor' with soloist Sunwook Kim and Ravel's 'Boléro' will be performed along with the 'Adagietto' from Mahler's 'Symphony No 5' and Morricone's 'Cinema Paradiso'.

The great Neeme Jarvi joins the RSNO for a performance of Prokofiev's mighty 'Symphony No 5', the most popular of his seven symphonies. Expect also pyrotechnics and emotional fireworks aplenty in Sibelius' 'Violin Concerto', performed by soloist Vadim Gluzman. Sibelius' tone poem 'The Oceanides' completes the programme. Gordon Bruce (RSNO double bass) gives a pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.
