Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

After the disappointing 'Bride and Prejudice', writer/director Chadha takes a step into younger territory with this adaptation of two of Louise Rennison's books. The film lacks the sharp wit of slick American comedies such as 'Clueless' and 'Mean Girls', but earns points for featuring actresses, including lead Groome, who really are the age of the characters they're playing.

As well as a Borat-style delight in his own nakedness, Zohan is characterised by his 'funny foreigner' enthusiasm for hummus, Euro-disco and Wham-era hairstyling. Sandler's latest attempt to un-stereotype himself is a tragic attempt to use outrageous comedy to smooth relationships between New York's Israeli and Palestinian communities

Emperor Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous are poised to rule the galaxy. The universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights, led by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with brand-new heroes such as Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. Like the more recent 'Star Wars' films, this is fairly tedious stuff, but it is nicely animated and fans will probably love it.

The sequel has more of everything ? monsters, action, humour, character development, supporting cast and mythology ? but it suffers from an overabundance of riches.

Date Location
Overweight panda Po (Black) joins his heroes, the Fierce Five, in a butt-kicking adventure when the valley of peace is threatened with the return of bad kung fu master, Tai Lung (McShane). This is Dreamworks-does-manga animation, overlaid with an Eastern version of the fated place-in-the-universe style philosophy originally trademarked in 'The Lion King'.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Date Location
Chunky old-fashioned explorer Rick O'Connell (Fraser) returns, and this time he's off to check out the catacombs of ancient China. This risible third installment of hearty adventure franchise is awash with bad CGI effects, infantile humour and sloppy performances. This is pure cheeseball. Unless you've had a lobotomy avoid.

Date Location
Inspired by sci-fi classics from the 1960s and 70s, Pixar have created a post-apocalyptic story set in a future in which the Earth has been abandoned by humankind, where a solitary robot named WALL-E executes his now pointless trash collecting programme. At its heart this is a very sweet romantic comedy, and that's what provides the emotional clout.

London governess Miss Pettigrew (McDormand) has just lost another job. Dumped by her agency, Miss Pettigrew manages to worm her way into the house of American wannabe starlet Delysia (Adams). Smith plays a nihilistic superhero who has fallen out of favour with the public. Due to this scenario, 'Hancock' dangerously flirts with the status of one-joke film. 'Penelope' is characterised by its subtlety, rejecting easy plot turns and 'Shrek'-esque pop culture commentary, its individuality and intelligence making it a bit of a hybrid freak.
