Annie Hall
Date Location
Two decades before 'Sex And The City' had its first orgasm, 'Annie Hall' was laying bare the mores of modern, urban romance to devastating effect while also zoning in on the specific psyche of Allen Konigsberg: anti-Semitic paranoia, metaphysical angst, the search for true love. There's a highly charged on-screen electricity between Allen and Keaton, glorious vistas of the old New York and hilarious set pieces - Alvy fighting with lobsters, the scene of his childhood home below the…

Evan Almighty
Date Location
One-joke comedy about a humble congressman (Carell) who is visited by God (a painfully smug Freeman) and told to build an ark. With animals lining up two by two, Evan is forced to question his maker's mysterious ways during his conversion from straight-laced suit to mystic sage in this tepid religious farce.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Date Location
A sunny Spring day in Chicago is far too good to spend locked in a classroom so the irrepressible Ferris Bueller feigns a malady, cuts classes and promises his two best friends a day to remember. Characteristically Hughes teen comedy that scores with fresh dialogue and appealing characterisations, but has the drawback of some laboured farce and the need to make meaningful statements.

Holdridge's acerbic and warmly human dispatch from the frontline of the LA dating scene sees Wilson (McNairy) desperately searching for a date to provide him with a New Year's kiss. After putting an advert on Craigslist, he meets Vivian (Simmonds), an aspiring actress who may or may not match Wilson's emotional unavailability.

10 Sep Wed 1.30 Falkirk Town Hall, Falkirk
Manhattan
Date Location
A slight, urban, amoral romantic comedy about one divorcee's attempt to find love with his best friend's mistress (Keaton). Its timelessness is owed to Gordon Willis' gorgeous black and white photography, Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue', knowing borrowings from other film masters and much, much more. The film has certainly dated, but remains the romantic comedy of this or any year and Allen's one true masterpiece.

Meet Dave
Date Location
Eddie Murphy plays Dave Ming Chang, a spaceship made in the image of its miniature-sized captain (also Murphy) who has landed on Earth on a mission to save his planet. Now, one of the least eagerly anticipated reunions in cinema history - between Murphy and director Brian Robbins ('Norbit') - invites us to Meet Dave. You really shouldn't bother.

Sex and the City: The Movie
Date Location
A few years on from packing away the series, the characters are back and fleshed out, the individual angst of each woman realised enough to engage even the hardened cynics. Like life however, the film isn't perfect, the beginning recap is clumsy, the ending is rushed, and the version of feminist power and female solidarity the film peddles is slightly simplistic.

Teeth
Date Location
In a Texan small town high-schooler Dawn (Weixler) finds her pledged commitment to virginity threatened by a number of prospective lovers, and more so by set of razor-sharp teeth between her legs (vagina dentata). Despite a half hour of well-observed high-school alienation, 'Teeth' falls to the level of crude horror comedy long before the film's final cheap shot.
