A Blonde in Love (Lasky Jedne Plavovlasky)
Date Location
Forman's first international breakthrough hit is a near perfect, wonderful, sweet and funny sex comedy about a girl who takes a one night stand a little too seriously, with farcical results.
24 Aug Sun 7.15 Glasgow Film Theatre, Glasgow
Hairspray (Parent & Baby Screening)
Date Location
Faithful adaptation of the Broadway musical rather than a remake of John Waters' 1988 film. Although darker elements of the story are lost in pursuit of fun and a mainstream audience, this all-singing, all-dancing teen flick shines amid a summer of noisy blockbuster sequels. Travolta's surprisingly endearing performance (in full drag) as Edna Turnblad is the cherry on top.

Meet Dave
Date Location
Eddie Murphy plays Dave Ming Chang, a spaceship made in the image of its miniature-sized captain (also Murphy) who has landed on Earth on a mission to save his planet. Now, one of the least eagerly anticipated reunions in cinema history - between Murphy and director Brian Robbins ('Norbit') - invites us to Meet Dave. You really shouldn't bother.

Penelope
Date Location
With her moneyed background and good sense of humour Penelope (Ricci) should have been a bit of a catch. Sadly, she has a pig's snout for a nose, and, not only do her swinish features send the boys running, they also confine her to dating the landed gentry. 'Penelope' is characterised by its subtlety, rejecting easy plot turns and 'Shrek'-esque pop culture commentary, its individuality and intelligence making it a bit of a hybrid freak.

Sex and the City: The Movie
Date Location
A few years on from packing away the series, the characters are back and fleshed out, the individual angst of each woman realised enough to engage even the hardened cynics. Like life however, the film isn't perfect, the beginning recap is clumsy, the ending is rushed, and the version of feminist power and female solidarity the film peddles is slightly simplistic.
28 Aug Thu 8.15 Macrobert, Stirling
Whisky Galore
Date Location
Much-loved Ealing comedy by the late Sandy Mackendrick. A ship carrying a cargo of whisky is shipwrecked off a Scottish island during wartime, so the locals decide it's time to quench their thirst. Full of wit and charm that others can only hope to emulate.
28 Aug Thu 6.00 An Lanntair Arts Centre and Cinema, Isle of Lewis
