Batman Begins (Double Bill with The Dark Knight)
Date Location
Deeply flawed but satisfyingly dark and realistic adaptation of both Bob Kane's original strips and Frank Miller's 'Batman: Year One'. David 'Blade' Goyer's script is pretty awful but this is also a fairly substandard piece of work from Nolan as well. 'Batman Begins' does, however, need to be applauded for partly revitalising an ailing franchise.
21 Nov22 Nov Fri & Sat 7.00 IMAX Theatre, Glasgow
5,000 Fingers of Dr T
Date Location
A nine-year-old boy imagines his piano teacher as an authoritarian madman. On one level, the musical numbers and fantasy structure make it an acceptable kids' movie; on another, it's a fascinating blend of surreal dream imagery that would have had Freud tinkling at the ivories.
23 Nov24 Nov Sun 1.00; Mon 10.30am Filmhouse, Edinburgh
For A Few Dollars More
Date Location
Two bounty hunters (Eastwood and Van Cleef) join forces to hunt down a crazy bandit and his gang. The second of the Man With No Name series, with the usual stylish camerawork and Morricone score.
17 Nov18 Nov Mon 3.15; Tue 6.00 Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee
The Incredible Hulk (Subtitled)
Date Location
Five years after Ang Lee's 'Hulk' commercially flopped, Leterrier ditches cerebral musing for all-out action and little else. The sequel finds Dr Bruce Banner (Norton) hiding from the American military, reunited with lover Betty Ross (Tyler) and pursued by her father, General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt). Disappointingly dumb, this Hulk is anything but incredible.
