Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Date Location
Fifteen years on from the 1992 'Director's Cut', Scott has had another bash at his sci-fi opus which pitted Deckard (Ford) against a slew of replicants. Now a more linear, voiceover-free film noir, for once a great film has been made better thanks to advances in special effects technology and thoughtful rethinking.
13 Aug Wed 8.30 Glasgow Film Theatre, Glasgow
Casino Royale
Date Location
The prequel to the other Bond films time warps back to the enduring action hero becoming a 00 licensed to kill. The latest Bond (Craig) proves to be a strong leading man, but the film is let down by trying to do too much. With a weak villain and Bond girl to boot, it doesn't really feel like a Bond film at all.
12 Aug Tue 7.00 The Cinema, Newton Stewart
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Date Location
In the second instalment of the Narnia films, the Pevensie children are summoned back to Narnia for a slick, fast-paced romp through dark woods, underground caverns and fierce battles. With a simplistic plot, and Caspian (Barnes) reduced to a pretty face, Disney may have finally brought Narnia to the big screen, but for a real journey of the imagination, stick to the books.

The Forbidden Kingdom
Date Location
Chop-socky superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li share the screen for the first time in this East-meets-West martial arts adventure in which a kung fu obsessed American teen makes a discovery that sends him on a quest to China to free the imprisoned Monkey King. Think 'Karate Kid' crossed with 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. Full of interesting references to great Hong Kong actioners of the past this is enjoyable and silly fun.

Enjoyable follow-up to the Canadian 2002 animated feature. 'Larry Sanders' and 'Simpsons' scribe Jon Vitti picks up the writing reins with aplomb as Manfred, Sid and Diego face their biggest challenge to date - the end of the Ice Age.

It's 1957, the Soviets have replaced the Nazis as the biggest set of thugs on the planet and Jones (Ford) has returned for his most outlandisih adventure yet. Russian baddie Spalko (Blanchett) is out to trick the hero into uncovering the secrets of a mythical crystal, a challenge which proves that the old dog still has a few new tricks.

Stardust
Date Location
In a countryside town bordering a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm in this star-studded fantasy epic adapted from the novel by Neil Gaiman. Cox lacks pizzazz as the adventurer Tristan, which Vaughn only emphasises by pitching him against one big-name star after another and while 'Stardust' has some entertaining moments, it looks fated to join 'Eragon' and 'The Dark is Rising' on the box office…
