The autoharp is a traditional stringed instrument which is easy for beginners but capable of much, much more! Autoharp has a growing following in the UK, and this will be the second Scottish Autoharp Weekend, supported this year as an official event of the UK Autoharps association.
Events have been planned across three days, with a full day of music planned for Saturday. Tutors and performers include: Scotland's interntational autoharp champion, George Haig, During Saturday morning and afternoon a 'Scottish Autoharp Day' will have events, workshops and resources to support both new and more experienced autoharpers.
A number of ‘loaner’ autoharps will be available on Saturday, so you can try the instrument even if you‘ve never held an autoharp before (advance booking of a loaner autoharp is advised). The Beginners Workshops will be suitable for complete beginners, or for those who have had some experience of playing (perhaps on their own, without any outside support).
A range of workshops for more experienced autoharpers will be running in parallel with the Beginner's workshops.
The Saturday Evening Concert will feature performances by world-class autoharpers. George Haig will be joined by: Heather Farrell-Roberts, Nadine Stah White, and Bob Ebdon.
Pub Music Sessions heppen on all three days (Friday evening, Saturday lunchtime and Sunday lunchtime/afternoon)
On Sunday morning, an Autoharp Gospel church service will feature music from the weekend's performers and workshop leaders.
Full details and timings for the Scottish Autoharp Weekend are on the UK Autoharps website - on the 'Future Events' page.
