A one-day dance event that moves the ceilidh into the streets of Edinburgh, with each dance led by a skilled caller and lead couple to make beginners feel at home. Ceilidhs in Unlikely Places is an exciting one-day music and dance event designed to take a contemporary look at a historic Scottish tradition, by moving the ceilidh dance out of function suites and town halls and putting it in the very heart of Edinburgh's city centre. This community project promises to be fun for all ages and abilities, featuring a skilled caller and a lead couple to lead less-experienced participants through the dances. Each ceilidh in the series is designed as a pop-up event, starting suddenly and lasting less than an hour, before the party picks up and moves to the next location.

Ceilidhs in Unlikely Places is organized by MSc student Marty Camino under the guidance of music lecturer Dee Isaacs and is sponsored by the University of Edinburgh Music Department.
