This five-day summer school is designed for young people aged 15 to 17 years old who are interested in developing performance skills, exploring innovative ways creating with film and working as part of a team to devise an original performance.
By the end of the course participants should have:
- Gained an understanding of the film-making process
- Developed creative and critical thinking skills
- Experienced the roles of actor, director and camera operator
- Collaborated in a group to re-imagine and film a scene from their chosen film
There is no such thing as an original idea. We know this from Hollywood as they constantly churn out another remake.
Some of us may think, ‘why mess with an original?’
But we are looking for those who think, ‘I could have done it better!’
Over the week we will re-visit the films that have not quite hit the mark for us. Maybe we had high hopes for them but at the end of the day they let us down. Or maybe you have a favourite film which you think needs some tweaking? Well here’s your chance to make your own radical directors cut.
Alongside two experienced tutors and a film editor, you will take part in creative re-imaginings of films that you feel could have been made better. Using professional level film equipment, you will work in a variety of roles and ways to create filmic moments.
Working collaboratively the group will work to a deadline to storyboard, discuss, schedule and shoot scenes to be presented to the editor.
