Summer is the time for feeling brighter and this exhibition exploits the comedy found in everyday life. Smile comprises works by 13 leading contemporary applied artists who have used the word 'smile' as the inspiration for creating their work. The exhibitors are some of the biggest and brightest names in the applied arts field and they bring their work to the gallery from across the UK.

They include: Mike Abbott & Kim Ellwood, Julie Arkell, Janet Bolton, Lucy Casson, Michael Flynn, Eleanor Glover, Jo Lawrence, Lindsay Mann, Linda Miller, Craig Mitchell, Deirdre Nelson, Robert Race and Freddie Robins.

This is the first showing of the exhibition in Scotland. The pieces include work in metal, ceramics, textiles and found objects; materials that are playfully used and wittily crafted. From Deirdre Nelson's display of animal based stitched and knitted works stemming from her artist's residency on the island of North Uist, to Freddie Robins' wool ball sheep, you will find plenty in the exhibition to make you giggle.
