Selling the Scream for a Steal? Art Theft at Auction
This listing is from a previous year. Search for current listings.
Edvard Munch's The Scream exists in more than one version, and in May the last privately-owned copy of it was sold in New York for a stunning $120 million – although it still lags some way behind Cezanne's The Card Players, which sold in 2011 for $250 million. Two other versions of The Scream have been stolen and recovered on different occasions, and art historian Jane Seaton here talks about the impact of the thefts.
