Books in Focus: Lewis Carroll
This listing is from a previous year. Search for current listings.
Lewis Carroll's original version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was called Alice's Adventures Under Ground and was illustrated by Carroll himself, but when he rewrote it for publication he initiated one of the great collaborations in literature by getting John Tenniel to produce new illustrations. The results are some of the most beautifully and wittily illustrated children's books of all time, and this talk focuses on Tenniel's contribution to the Alice books and Henry Holiday's different but equally great illustrations for Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark.
