Press release: MESSFEST BRINGS FIVE AMAZING BANDS TO THE HMV PICTURE HOUSE, RAISING FUNDS FOR MYELOMA UK
Six years ago, three schoolfriends at Edinburgh's Craigmount High School were in search of a charity project to run as part of their Enterprise classes. Stuart Storar, Craig Whitelaw and Blair Messer sat in the common room and threw around a few ideas, rejecting along the way a first year football tournament, a sponsored silence and even a bake sale. However, being no good at football, cooking, or keeping quiet, they hit upon the idea of bringing together the best musical talents from their school, by putting on quite a show - MessFest. Taking it's name from one of the trio, MessFest saw a variety of Craigmount bands take to the stage both in the school and at a large city rock venue. Fast forward four years, and those same friends are back with much bigger ambitions. Still raising money for Edinburgh-based charity Myeloma UK, MessFest has already returned to Studio 24 in January 2012, and on Friday March 30th, takes to the largest rock venue in Edinburgh, the HMV Picture House. The line up for this huge fundraiser is bigger too, with five of Edinburgh's finest rock bands on stage. For just five pounds, fans can see Hold The Suspect, People Places Maps, Craigmount's own heroes Six Storeys High, and two of the biggest bands to emerge from the Capital: the NME 2012 picks Bwani Junction, and Jakil, who are fresh from playing to over 60,000 people when they supported JLS on their nationwide tour. MessFest organiser Stuart Storar said "We are delighted and amazed that what started as a school project six years ago has now grown to become such a massive event on the Scottish music calendar. We have five amazing bands for just five pounds, and we hope to raise an absolute fortune for this very worthwhile local charity!" More information on all bands playing is available at http://tinyurl.com/messfestgig MessFest is being generously supported by local music retailers Red Dog Music and Drum Central, and also Edinburgh printing company Print Me Media.
