Iain Clark: Intimate Portraits of Scottish Writers

Iain Clark: Intimate Portraits of Scottish Writers

There have been portraiture exhibitions in the past centred on Scottish writers but not one as ambitious in scope
and technique. The writers featured range in age from 28 to 77 and the recent death of one – Edwin Morgan – has
seen his literary legacy become the subject of heightened public awareness.

Iain's technique has been described by
the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as “sitting somewhere between photography and painting”.  The camera and the photograph are only the beginning of the creative process and the subsequent manipulation of the image creates a finished portrait which is intended to capture the essential person.

While some of the images have been shown before,
Aye Write! will be the first time that they have appeared as an entire collection in a single exhibition.
