The Unspoken Passage of a Spruce Tree
'The unspoken passage of a spruce tree' documents the remains of a broadly practised annual ritual. The Growth project collected discarded spruce trees from the streets of Edinburgh and created a typology of their specimens. This meaningless act of gathering is an analogy for the thoughtless felling of a tree.
The unspoken passage of a spruce tree is an outcome of Growth, a collaborative project working with cultivation as an art form. The new body of work has been produced on the occasion of exhibition in the Janet Henderson Gallery.
