The Glass Menagerie

**Strathclyde Theatre Group presents The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams**

Set in St Louis during the depression era of the 1930s, this 'memory play' is told through the eyes of Tom Wingfield, an aspiring writer whose longing for escape from his menial warehouse job causes him to strike up a deal with his well-meaning but frustrating mother Amanda to help her provide a suitable 'Gentleman Caller' for Laura, his shy and mildly crippled sister.

Told with love and nostalgia, this semi-autobiographical play was Williams’ first major success on Broadway. A poignant family drama filled with laughter and heartbreak which still resonates with audiences more than 70 years on from its original run.
