Slow Marathon

As the days begin to lengthen Deveron Arts has the ideal project to get you out of doors.

Ethiopian artist Mihret Kebede would like to have walked from Addis Ababa to Huntly to start her residency, but this was rather impossible for her. The distance of 5850 miles is only one barrier to the physical impossibility of such a feat, more constraining are border controls and visa restrictions.

To cover the distance from Addis to Huntly, Deveron Arts wants to bring 225 people together to walk a marathon of 26 miles.

Are you up for a challenge? You can walk alone or share the walk with a friend, just remember there is no winner or loser in the Slow Marathon.

Starting in the town square, the marathon will encompass the historic landscape around Huntly, including the local landmarks of the Battlehill, Kinnoir woods and the Ba'hill. On arrival in Huntly we'll celebrate your achievement with tea and cake.

A parallel walking event with multi-world record holder Haile Gebrselassie will take place in Addis Ababa on the 18th of March to see if we can gather enough miles to bring Mihret back home.
