Kind of Larkin: Dave Batchelor Quintet, Don Paterson & David Hayman
Philip Larkin, jazz-lover as well as poet, worked as a jazz critic during the 1960s and his reviews and writings on the development of jazz over the decades reflect on his role as reviewer as well as on the music, as his true feelings about modern jazz seep through. His sometimes controversial opinions are eloquently and often humorously expressed. This event brings together readings by an acclaimed actor from Larkin's prose writings and some of his jazz-inspired poems with jazz accompaniments to the readings from The Dave Batchelor Quintet, including leading Scottish poet Don Paterson on guitar and David Hayman as reader – an unmissable elegy for a generation of jazz lovers. Part of StAnza: Scotland's International Poetry Festival.
