Music, books and discussion events form the backbone of the Solas programme, but the main thrust of the festival is providing an atmosphere that's relaxed and accessible to all. The food on offer is reasonably-priced, the talks and discussions are wide-ranging (covering art, politics, religion, music and more), and there's a good variety of activities and events for kids and families. Artists confirmed for 2012 include Admiral Fallow, Raghu Dixit, Stanley Odd, Rory Butler, Adam Stearns, Stewart Henderson, John Bell and slam poetry champion Harry Baker.

Solas Festival 2012
Back again for its third year, Solas Festival will be held in Wiston, near Biggar, South Lanarkshire from 22 to 24 June 2012.
Once again, the eclectic line-up will set your toes-tapping, your hands creating and your grey matter wondering what actually matters.
In music, we've got Raghu Dixit, Stanley Odd, Rory Butler, Grousebeater Sound System and Adam Stearns and the Glass Animals. On the literature stage, we'll be visited by poetic royalty with the wonderful Aonghas MacNeacail, Radio 4 broadcaster Stewart Henderson and the inimitable Padraig O'Tuama. Harry Baker, European Slam Poetry Champion is also back for another year.
If this fantastic line-up gets you thinking about love, life and all that – and we hope it does – then you'll enjoy our Head Space. We are delighted to welcome some of the most prominent Scottish thinkers who will develop the festival theme: Fields in Motion. These include Carol Craig, Andy Wightman, John Bell, Albert Bogle, Gerry Hassan, Linda de Caesteker and Sonya Sharma.
All of that, as well as a top-class programme for children and young people, Soul space, creative arts, good food, good company and much more to come …
There are fantastic events and exhibitions happening all over the country during the Year of Creative Scotland. Look out for exciting new initiatives to complement a fantastic and enhanced, year-round cultural programme that shows off our creativity at its best – contemporary, international and reflecting the joy that a vibrant cultural life brings to our communities.
