Arrives in Starting
The Duchy presents an ambitious, large-scale off-site project in The Lighthouse, showcasing new artwork by 11 of Scotland’s strongest young artists (Scotland-based or educated in Scotland).
In what will become a yearly exhibition of new work organised by The Duchy in various sites around Glasgow, Arrives in Starting’s title is taken from Mina Loy’s 1914 poem 'Aphorisms on Futurism', tying in with the festival’s curatorial theme ‘Real Time’ and reflecting the focused and emerging nature of the contributing artists.
Chosen due to their ongoing achievements both nationally and internationally and a commitment to producing exciting and innovative artwork, each artist has been invited to contribute an ambitious piece or body of work specifically for the exhibition. Encompassing film, performance, sculpture, painting and installation the project focuses on each artist’s individual practice rather than looking for links between them, aiming to demonstrate the best of new work to the international audience of the festival.
The Duchy is a gallery in Glasgow working with the most exceptional recent graduates, emerging artists, curators, more established practitioners and other artist-led initiatives.
