RBS Museum Lates: Night of the Mummy

One was fun but Two is gearing up to be bigger, better and later with live music, DJs, comedy and more than a hint of Ancient Egypt

We tested the water with our first Museum Late and it’s clear you want more. This time we’ve taken the lead from our Fascinating Mummies exhibition to bring a flavour of Ancient Egypt to our second Museum Late. We’ve beefed up the programme with more live acts and lots more to do on the night.

Jenners is setting up a Fashion and Make-up Oasis in the Grand Gallery, where you can check out this season’s hottest Ancient Egypt-inspired trends. Watch out for our roving fashion show as models weave through the crowd.

Head for the gazebo at the other end of the Grand Gallery, don a Cleo wig, Pharaoh’s head-dress or mummy’s rags and strike a pose next to the Nubian statue.

In the Ancient Egypt gallery you’ll probably bump into Hector Bruce, our Victorian archaeologist just back from another expedition. He’ll regale you with tales of burials, tombs, mummies and curses.

Radio One’s Ally McCrae joins us again to introduce live sets from Bwani Junction and Sparrow and the Workshop. We’ve also added live comedy from Edinburgh Bright Club, themed film screenings and a Lates Bazaar to the mix. Our Silent Disco returns by popular demand and there’s a themed finale to round off the evening.

Our Museum Brasserie adds its own taste of Egypt to its menu with North African spiced guinea fowl with tabbouleh and pomegranate seeds. The Brasserie opens from 17:00hrs: call 0131 247 4040 in advance to be sure of a table.

For Egyptian food on the go, try the benugo snack stand within the main museum for slow-cooked lamb shawerma with tahini sauce or falafel and hummus pitas.

Tickets are going fast so don’t leave it too long to buy yours for February. Joint Museum Late and Fascinating Mummies tickets have already sold out but don’t worry! If you buy a standard Museum Late ticket now, you can pay an extra £9 (£7.50 concessions) on the night to see the exhibition (subject to availability).
