Scottish Traditional Boat Festival

The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, a celebration of maritime heritage and culture will feature an exciting array of local foods, producers and cookery demonstrations from chefs from the Banffshire Coast.

The 2012 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Traditional Boat Festival is set to whet the appetites of thousands of foodies with a tantalising menu of food exhibitors and plenty of tastings. The festival has been attracting thousands of marine and heritage enthusiasts for almost two decades, but in recent years the attractions off the water and on the quayside have been causing just as much of a stir.

The food fayre is sponsored by local fish merchant Downies of Whitehills – just one of many household names to be associated with the event. Visitors will be able to taste locally caught seafood on offer at many catering vendors, including seafood hero Iain Spink. He has been attending the festival for many years and throngs of people queue up at his stall to watch him prepare his famous Arbroath smokies – haddock smoked over a barrel and under hessian sacks.

The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Traditional Boat Festival is one of the country’s flagship tourism events, bringing together traditional wooden boats from all over Europe in a colourful maritime spectacle. There is an extensive programme of events away from the water, a crafts marquee, displays of traditional boat building, and music from around the world in addition to the food fayre and cookery demonstrations. The Festival is a key event in the calendar of the Year of Creative Scotland – a national initiative to highlight the country’s creative and cultural vibrancy.
