Scottish Chamber Orchestra: CL@SIX: The Lark Ascending
While Ralph Vaughan Williams was writing sketches one day in 1914 for his celebrated sort-of-concerto The Lark Ascending, he happened to be watching troopships taking British soldiers to France. A small boy saw him, thought he was writing in code and reported him to a policeman, who went on to arrest the composer. (Vaughan Williams, unlike the Clash, really did Fight The Law.) Here, the work is bookended by Mendelssohn's delightful Overture, Son & Stranger and Schubert's Symphony No 5. Alexander Janiczek directs and takes the solo violin part.
We don't have details of any future performances, if you know of some please let us know.
