BBC SSO: Schumann's 'Rhenish' Symphony
Denis Kozhukhin is the soloist in Prokofiev's left-hand-only Piano Concerto No 4, commissioned (like Ravel's famous Concerto for the Left Hand) for one-armed pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who never actually got around to playing it. Richard Strauss's Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche is a rollicking tone poem depicting a cheerful prankster; Strauss's Prelude to his early opera Guntram is a suitably scene-setting introduction to Schumann's exuberantly optimistic Symphony No 3 (Rhenish). Jun Märkl is the guest conductor.
We don't have details of any future performances, if you know of some please let us know.
