KRS-One

With an acronym that stands for knowledge reigns supreme, KRS-One makes it clear from the off that he isn't just another MC concerned with rapping about girls and material possessions. Making his name as part of Boogie Down Productions with Scott La Rock in the eighties, the revolutionary American began by using music as a tool for social and political change. His hardcore rap style and sharp wit commanded attention, giving hope to the underdog and changing the shape of hip hop. Continuing with his mission into the present day, KRS has gained the nickname the "teacha", with high-energy live shows that incorporate hip hop, reggae, spoken word and street-poetry. He also frequently gives lectures, has published several philosophical books and is credited with being "the de facto spokesperson for hip hop" by the Wall Street Journal. Songs like Sound Of Da Police and a string of awards have cemented the artist's place in music history, and his tireless crusade ensures he will not be forgotten. Inspiring a new generation of artists and listeners, KRS-One continues to innovate.
