Vienna Festival Ballet: Swan Lake
Ever since the company was founded in 1980 by celebrated Austrian dancer Peter Mallek, the Vienna Festival Ballet has gained a reputation for bringing classical ballet to audiences across Europe at affordable prices. The dancers are certainly devoted to the cause, they spend eight months of the year touring across Europe. They have commissioned talented new choreographers to come up with new pieces, but they are arguably best known for their repertoire of classics, which includes Giselle, Coppelia, Cinderella, and of course the most famous ballet of them all-Swan Lake. The production uses striking costumes and sets, as well as Tchaikovsky's famous music to tell the magical tale of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the beautiful Swan Queen, Odette. Established dance fans will probably already be booking tickets, but for anyone who would like to dip a delicately pointed toe into the world of ballet, this could well be the perfect place to start.
