Lowry's Travels: Drawings, Paintings And Prints By LS Lowry

The basis of this exhibition is the bringing together of paintings and prints from Lowry's travels across the UK capturing various locations and scenes in the distinctive style. Altogether the exhibition features 20 works that trace the artist's journey across Britain. This also marked a journey of experimentation as he worked in pastel, oil, print and other forms of paint. Some of Lowry's earlier paintings were inspired by his travels through the streets of Manchester during his time working as a rent collector. Whenever he was out and about within the community he was visiting at the time he would take with him a notebook and document the people and scenes he observed. He was particularly interested in depicting scenes of trade and after the presence of industry in Manchester had all but disappeared towards the beginning of the 1950s he began to travel more extensively, visiting the busy shipping yards of Tyne and Wear throughout the 1960s. This collection offers fond scenes of nostalgia captured in the naive style and dusky shades that Lowry is so well known for.

We don't have details of any future performances, if you know of some please let us know.
