Moscow Ballet La Classique: The Nutcracker

One of the world's best-loved and most approachable ballets is coming to UK theatres courtesy of Moscow Ballet La Classique, a company founded in 1990 utilising ballet dancers from the leading theatres of the CIS Countries and the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev and Odessa. For anyone unfamiliar with the plot, it's based upon a children's tale by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffman and is set on Christmas Eve, when the young Clara creeps downstairs for a sneak peek at one of her presents, the toy Nutcracker. It's the start of a night of magical adventures as toy soldiers come to life to do battle with the Mouse King, flowers dance and the Nutcracker transforms into a handsome prince who transports us to the Land Of Sweets. The eternally popular score is by Tchaikovsky, and features such memorable melodies as the Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy and The Waltz Of The Flowers.
