Hofesh Shechter Company: Political Mother

Since his first performances at Sadler's Wells in 2007, Hofesh Shechter has become one of the UK's most celebrated young artists. A former drummer in a rock band, Shechter creates the musical scores for each of his dance creations, and his atmospheric music, alongside his company's unique physicality, has earned him an unrivalled reputation around the world. His work has been seen everywhere from Roundhouse and Latitude Festival to the opening credits of Channel 4's Skins. Now, he returns with his highly anticipated new work Political Mother, the first-full length piece for his internationally acclaimed company since he exploded onto the world stage with Uprising/In your rooms. Commissioned by Sadler's Wells & Brighton Festival, Political Mother brims with Shechter's gritty and emotional complexity. Ten dancers of the Hofesh Shechter Company present an increasingly surreal chain of encounters, leading to a series of shocking, amusing and touching events, which challenge our notion of what is 'normal'. Political Mother is accompanied by a cinematic score composed by Shechter himself and performed by a band of live musicians.
