Paul Carrack
Paul Carrack has been a stalwart of the British rock scene since the early 1970s. Although playing in other bands previously, it was with Ace that he first achieved national recognition with the classic How Long. The band eventually split and Carrack began his peripatetic career as a keyboard player, moving first to join Roxy Music in the late 1970s. From there he took the piano stool vacated by Jools Holland in Squeeze, singing lead on their 1981 hit Tempted. Later in the 1980s, Carrack played as part of Roger Water's band for a while before forming Mike And The Mechanics with Mike Rutherford of Genesis. The band were highly successful, releasing a number of hit singles and albums. Despite all this, he found time to make a number of solo albums with similar success. During the 1980s he also worked with The Pretenders, Nick Lowe and The Smiths. The 1990s saw him appear at Roger Water's performance of The Wall in Berlin before rejoining Squeeze for another spell. From 2000 onwards, Paul Carrack has continued his solo career in parallel with appearances as part of Ringo Starr's band and collaborations with Eric Clapton, Elton John and the Eagles. Paul Carrack has consistently been one of the backbones of the UK's music industry and this looks likely to continue throughout the living years.
