RSNO: Järvi conducts Tristan and Isolde
A theme of doomed love suffuses this concert, conducted by the great Neeme Järvi, and which opens with Sibelius's 'Pelléas and Mélisande'. Next, after the success of his epic orchestral version of Wagner's 'Ring' two seasons ago, Henk de Vlieger has turned his hand to 'Tristan and Isolde', compressing the opera, and its intense emotional landscape, into a symphonic work - no mean feat.

The legendary Maestro Neeme Jarvi conducts two tragic tales of doomed love. Follow the plaintive cor anglais solo of Melisande as it weaves through Sibelius’ haunting and melancholic textures. And those who heart Henk de Vlieger’s epic orchestral version of Wagner’s Ring two seasons ago will eagerly anticipate Tristan and Isolde: An Orchestral Passionm an incredible opera compressed to the length of a symphony without losing any of its sumptuously emotional impact.
Pre-concert talk at 6.45pm with RSNO violinist Elita Bungard.
Text supplied by third party.
