An outstanding collection of contemporary art recently acquired by the National Galleries of Scotland and the Tate, through a generous donation by British collector and dealer, Anthony d'Offay. Individual rooms devoted to a particular artist will be on display all over the UK. In the opening displays in Edinburgh, works by Andy Warhol, Vija Celmins, Ellen Gallagher, Damien Hirst, Alex Katz and Francesca Woodman can be viewed.

Artist rooms is an extraordinary collection of international modern art recently acquired jointly by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate. The collection of over 700 works has been acquired to provide a new national resource of contemporary art available for exhibitions in museums and galleries across the UK. Displays drawn from it will open at galleries across the country from this spring and throughout 2009, from Stromness to St Ives.

In the opening displays at the Gallery of Modern Art, visitors will be able to see concentrations of work by Vija Celmins, Ellen Gallagher, Damien Hirst, Alex Katz, Andy Warhol and Francesca Woodman.

Artist Rooms is jointly owned by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland and is being shared with museums and galleries throughout the UK thanks to the support of the independent charity The Art Fund and, within Scotland, The Scottish Government. Acquired jointly through The d’Offay Donation with the assistance from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and The Art Fund 2008.
