estival Theatre, Edinburgh from Friday 5 December to Saturday 3 January.
Written by
Stephen Greenhorn the critically acclaimed Sunshine on Leith will be performed by members of Dundee Rep’s Ensemble under the direction of
James Brining and also boasts a live nine-piece band.
The cast are
John Buick (as Rab),
Ewan Donald (as young Rab),
Keith Fleming (as Davy),
Denise Hoey (as Yvonne),
Julie Jupp (as Hazel),
Kevin Lennon (as Ally),
Ann Louise Ross (as Jean),
Tony Strachan (as Eddie),
Gail Watson (as Liz) and
Judith Williams (as Margaret). Other parts are played by
Rosemary Amoani, Nicola Jo Cully, Craig Deucher, Donna Giffen, Barrie Hunter and
Gavin Kean.
Sunshine on Leith follows the highs and lows of two Scotsmen who leave the army and return home to Leith and their families. Three very different love stories are intertwined creating a funny, poignant and hugely entertaining show.
Under the musical direction of
Hilary Brooks, the nine-piece band helps to bring to life 21 much loved Proclaimers’ songs including
Letter from America, I’m on My Way and I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).
Writer
Stephen Greenhorn, best known as creator of BBC Scotland’s River City, has written many plays for TV and stage including Passing Places for the Traverse Theatre which has been produced world-wide. Choreographer
Lizzie Gee - who has worked on hit West Ends shows Daddy Cool, Grease and Billy Elliott - and designer
Neil Warmington work again on this humorous and poignant show about everyday life in Scotland with lighting is by Oliver Fenwick.
Sunshine on Leith won TMA Best Musical Award 2007 and was nominated in five categories in CATS Awards 2007.
