Stirling

Stirling Castle

It's probably fair to say that most people who visit Stirling do so to see the city's extraordinary castle for themselves. And while that's definitely worth the trip, there's plenty more to discover here. Within the utilitarian concrete confines of Stirling University, you'll find the MacRobert, a wonderful arts centre that puts on a diverse range of visiting cinema, theatrical and musical attractions. More music, comedy, theatre and workshops can be found at the Tolbooth, a former jail, court and site of executions that's been converted into an airy exhibition space. It's a great place for food with a view too. And Stirling is surrounded by some real gems, from the luxury of Gleneagles and charm of the Trossachs to the splendour of the Blacklinn falls and the engineering marvel that is the Falkirk Wheel.
