Dundee

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Not so long ago Dundee was best known for jute, jam and Desperate Dan. Today could not be more different. Not only has the city become something of a hub for computer games creativity, but it is also a hotspot for up and coming jewellery designers - thanks in part to Duncan of Jordanstone Art College graduates. The arts scene punches well above its weight too. The cultural focus of the city is Dundee Contemporary Arts, which boasts a cutting edge gallery space, arthouse cinema and bar and restaurant. The Dundee Rep also has a well-deserved reputation for excellent home-grown theatre and attracts regular, enthusiastic audiences from Glasgow and Edinburgh. One of the most moving attractions you'll ever visit is the award-winning Discovery Point, a museum based around Captain Scott's polar voyage ship. Beach lovers are in luck in here too – Broughty Ferry, which used to be a separate town but is now part of Dundee, is a short drive from the city centre and has a lovely beach, charming seaside atmosphere and gorgeous views.
