Jim Dick: Fornixxation

Jim Dick, 'Canniballerina'
This exhibition presents a series of compelling paintings by Glasgow School of Art graduate Jim Dick on the theme of subconscious memories, desires and symbolic associations. The title is taken from a number of strands related to the exhibition and its backdrop. The word ‘Fornix’ is Latin for ‘Arch’ and is also the name of the triangular structure inside the brain responsible for memory and emotion. The modern English word ‘fornication’ is derived from the fact that in ancient Rome prostitutes were often found under the city’s archways.
Arches, Glasgow, until Wed 9 Jul.
