News to nibble on
Martin Wishart, now one of Scotland’s best-known chefs, has just released his first cook book. Despite the elevated culinary status of his Leith restaurant, Wishart is keen to emphasise that his recipes are designed with all abilities in mind. ‘Anybody can cook,’ he says, ‘it’s all about giving them the confidence to realise this.’ Photos are by Alan Donaldson and the book is available online at www.martin-wishart.co.uk or in person at Restaurant Martin Wishart, 54 the Shore, Edinburgh. It costs £30 plus p&p.
The latest from Colin Barr’s Republic Bier Halle stable is a Bier Hof tucked into an atmospheric basement space at 323 Sauchiehall Street, opposite the CCA. They’ve over 50 beers in stock and you can sample the draught ale on Sundays for £2 a pint (wheat beer £3). Also on offer is free wi-fi, DJs at the weekend and regular food offers including 241 pizza and a new goPublic concept serving fair trade coffee, loose teas, soups and organic bread sandwiches. www.rbh.info
