Evita

It won’t be easy, you’ll think it strange . . . Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice’s musical trawl through the rise to sainthood of Eva Perón, is back on the road with a brand new national tour. Since the musical’s original incarnation as a concept album back in 1976, the role of the iconic political leader and wife of Argentine president Juan Perón has been inhabited by such legends of stage and screen as Julie Covington, Elaine Paige and Madonna. While exemplifying Lloyd-Webber and Rice’s typically crass approach to historical events, the show does feature a handful of bona fide pop classics, including ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’ and ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’.

Playhouse, Edinburgh, Mon 9–Sat 21 Jun.
