The line-up for this year's Cannes Film Festival has been announced, and the most widely-anticipated premiere isn't even in competition.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will receive its first screening at the festival, with director Steven Spielberg in attendance. The film will not compete for the Palme d'Or, though, and neither will any British films for the second year running. The award jury for 2008 will be chaired by Sean Penn, and also includes Natalie Portman and director Alfonso Cuaron.

Three of the 19 films in competition are American - Clint Eastwood's Changling, which stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, Steven Soderbergh's Guevara biopic Che and Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York. Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona will also show out-of-competition.

In better news for British film-makers, artist Sam Tayor-Wood's Love You More is a contender in the short film category. The festival takes place from 14 to 25 May.
