Celtic folk rockers play Inverness

He's a singer, he's a songwriter and he can play almost as many instruments as the London Symphony Orchestra. Now Mike Scott's Waterboys are set to top the bill with his band Waterboys at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in Inverness-shire.

Joining them are several other headline acts, with Scottish indie rockers Idlewild headlining the festival's Hothouse stage on Friday. And, for all those looking to roll back the years, Jefferson Starship, the kings of 70s psychedelia, will be also be appearing at the event.

Joe Gibbs, the festival director, is particularly pleased to have secured Waterboys and said: ‘We wanted to have an iconic band close to many people's hearts in the Highlands.’

The event, on 8 and 9 August, will cater for a variety of musical tastes. And everything from folk, in Rachel Unthank and the Winderset, Kathryn Williams and Lisa Knapp, to nu-punk, with Nouvelle Vague, will be covered.

'Early bird' tickets for the whole weekend cost £80, with tickets for the Saturday only on sale at £50.
