Fears expressed over Fringe comedy festival breakaway plans
If.comedy award producer Nica Burns has warned against breakaway plans by four of the Edinburgh Fringe's main venues.
Following recent news that the Assembly, Gilded Balloon, Underbelly and Pleasance venues plan to promote their own Edinburgh Comedy Festival, Burns said: 'If this is just a way of marketing for the four venues, then fine.
'But if it turns into more than that, then that would be a great shame in the context of the Fringe as a whole. Right now I would say: Don't split up something that has been created by artists over many years, working together.'
In other news, the Edinburgh International Festival has sold one million tickets already this year, which includes takings of £250,000 in one day.
