USSA - The Spoils (Fuzz Artists Inc) Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison and Ministry’s Paul Barker join forces in a new four-piece which is reminiscent of their previous endeavours but throws in added Killing Joke-esque bombast. Damn fine.

Quentin Harris - No Politics (Strictly Rhythm) A precocious, prodigious talent who creates a sophisticated melting pot of styles snaring house, funk, hip hop and soul with his dizzying vocal talents.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of Understatement (Domino) So this is what an Arctic Monkey does on his days off: gets together with the bloke from The Rascals (no, we’ve no idea either) to make some self-conscious cinematic retro jangles. Hmmmm.

Four Tet - Ringer (Domino) Emerging at the same time as Dan ‘Caribou’ Snaith, Kieran Hebden has followed a very different path into more avant jazz territory with his collaborations with Steve Reid but builds on his own organic electronic experiments for this album. No less compelling mind you.

Jim Noir - Jim Noir (My Dad) Pitched somewhere between Neil Hannon and Mike Skinner, this, the second album from this peculiar Manc chap is a more cohesive take on synth pop. Odd but fun.

Various - Singles 2006-08 (MoshiMoshi) Doing what the mighty Fierce Panda label prided it self on – discovering and celebrating the stars of tomorrow, today – MoshiMoshi gather together a salvo of their hottest moments over the last 24 months. And rest assured there’s plenty of good stuff to be had: Late of the Pier, Lykke Li, Kate Nash and more.
