New studio space being set up for artists
Art's Complex to be set up near Meadowbank
Good news for any Edinburgh artists currently toiling away in garrets: work is set to begin on a new series of much-needed studio spaces.
The Art's Complex is set to redress a severe shortage of affordable studio space in the capital. The development will see St Margaret's House, a 1970s block beside Meadowbank Stadium, converted into enough studio space for over 200 artists, as well as an 11,000 square ft gallery and exhibition space.
Art's Complex will also run performances and community outreach education projects.
'Edinburgh was the philosophical crucible of the Enlightenment, and I'd like to see the return of the city's reputation as an intellectual melting pot,' said Art's Complex director Derek Gray.
'With that in mind, I believe it's important to have a large collection of creative minds working together in the one site; a creative hub. '
Work on Art's Complex will begin on the 6th of April.
