James Cameron has confirmed that Star Wars will be re-released in 3D.

Talking from the set of his latest blockbuster, The Avatar, Cameron confirmed Hollywood's commitment to the 3D format in cinemas with many older films getting converted for the full 3D experience including Star Wars and his own Titanic.

Following the success of Beowulf in 3D, more and more cinemas are upgrading and an increasing number of 3D films such as U23D and even Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus are being released this year.

Cameron's The Avatar will also be released in 3D. Still shrouded in secrecy, this sci-fi epic, starring Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi and Michelle Rodriguez, will be four years in the making and is set for a 2009 release.
